City in Finland is 100% transfered from natural gas to biofuels
Finnish town of Imatra this year has transfered all of its central heating system from expencive natural gas to more affordable biofuel from wood.
The town of Imatra is quite small, with population about 30 thousand people. In Imatra located mainly large pulp and paper mills, and they are considered to be core enterprises.
This year in Imatra were put into operation three modern bioenergy boilers, wood-fired, with capacity of 30 MW, 4 MW and 1.5 MW. Every year, the town consumes biofuel from wood about 100 thousand cubic meters.
In addition, on the eve of the new year in Western Finland Kauhava city was put into operation solid-fuel boiler, which is used as bio-fuel wood chips. Thus almost all Finnish municipal heating systems switched from natural gas to wood biofuels.
